Mike Haischer PhD
Secretary General
Mike is a faculty member in the Exercise Science department at Concordia University Wisconsin. His research integrates mechanical, physiological, and psychological perspectives to better understand the factors that influence human movement, performance, and health across athletic and clinical populations. His work draws from biomechanics, exercise physiology, advanced statistical methods and machine learning, and applied sport science to advance scientific understanding and translate research into practical solutions for researchers, clinicians, coaches, organizational leaders, and athletes.
Mike earned his PhD in Exercise and Rehabilitation Science from Marquette University, where his doctoral research examined lower extremity joint function across varying stretch-shortening cycle task demands in Division I athletes, providing insight into the locomotor patterns associated with elite performance. Following his PhD, he completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at Marquette, where his research focused on understanding the limits of human performance and developing interventions to improve muscle power, hypertrophy, and fatigability in healthy and clinical populations. He has delivered more than 50 research presentations and authored 19 peer-reviewed publications, including a study of youth baseball pitchers examining the interrelationships between torso kinematic patterns, shoulder kinetics, and pitching performance (DOI: 10.1080/14763141.2021.2015427). He also holds an MS in Exercise Science and Health Promotion from Florida Atlantic University and a BS in Exercise Physiology with a minor in Psychology from Marquette University. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) whose coaching and applied sport science experience includes work with collegiate, professional, Olympic, and international athletes, including Major League Baseball with the Milwaukee Brewers.
An active member of the American Baseball Biomechanics Society since its inception, Mike first became involved with ABBS as a graduate student, presenting multiple times for the ABBS Journal Club. He later joined the Organizing Committee before being elected Secretary General and subsequently serving on the Society's Social Media Committee. As Secretary General, he is committed to fostering collaboration, maintaining strong communication with members, and advancing the Society's mission to promote excellence in baseball biomechanics research, education, and professional engagement.
